I Heart Indie Crafts

Megan Leone Designs will be represented at I Heart Indie Crafts this weekend at Lake Street Bar & Nightclub in Kirkland, Sunday March 7th from 12-4pm.

I Heart Indie Crafts is organized by the I Heart Rummage team. I Heart Rummage in Seattle was one of my first steps in starting my own company. After attending IHR and seeing all the designers selling their designs straight to the customer, I knew it was for me. I could create my own designs beginning to end and talk directly to people that loved them as much as I did. I would often have customers come up to me and say they loved the bracelet purse they bought from me months ago. As they would describe the fabric I remembered the purse and often remember the exchange we had that day. We were sharing a fragment of our lives together and whether they realized it or not they were making a big and wonderful impact on my life.

My husband and I have since moved to Massachusetts and I can no longer attend this awesome venue myself. My sales representative Drea (who by the way is super cool!) from Seva Sustainable Concepts mentioned representing me. I was thrilled! It's where my roots are and it makes me happy to know I will still be involved. So if you are in the Seattle area attending IHIC and you see my designs please say hi to Drea!

Alice in Wonderland

I saw this jewelry featured on Design Milk a while back and had to revisit it. With the release of 'Alice in Wonderland' coming up, I thought it was the perfect time to marvel at them again. These amazing pieces of jewelry/artwork are created by Joshua DeMonte.

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! My husband and I went to the Historical Valentine Exhibit at St. Paul's Church in Newburyport today. Patsy, the collector was knowledgeable and more than happy to share her large collection of valentines dating from the late 1800s to 1960s. Valentines use to be a much more serious business, often followed by marriage. Here are a couple of my favorites.

Alexander McQueen

I love you Alexander McQueen! I had always planned to write him a fan letter and tell him how much I admired him. I didn't know him personally, but felt a connection. I visited his shop in the Meatpacking District when I was in school and was blown away at the construction! The store employees were so nice, even received a smile. They knew I couldn't afford any of it but they let me swoon over it. I am so glad I was able to get a couple of his designs for Target. I hope he has found peace.

Iris Apfel

Last Friday night my husband and I went to Peabody Essex Museum's Iris Apfel exhibition. If you are unfamiliar with this fabulous lady this video is well worth a look, courtesy of the Boston Globe Rare Bird of Fashion: The Irreverent Iris Apfel.

The exhibition has left the museum but you can play with Iris' vitual paper dolls on Peabody Essex Museum's site All Dolled Up.
