Megan Leone created her first signature bracelet handbag in November 2004. She wanted to design a unique, highly functional and fashionable handbag that was versatile enough to go from working to shopping to clubbing. The bags are all one-of-a-kind and made primarily of vintage materials. In April 2005, she founded Megan Leone Designs. In addition to her bracelet purses, she designs jewelry and modifies vintage clothing.
Born and raised in southern Minnesota, Megan earned a bachelor's degree at South Dakota State University. She went on to attain an associate's degree in fashion design at FIT in New York City, where she lived for two years. Megan now resides in Newburyport, Massachusetts after moving from Seattle in July 2008.
Fashion from the Ashes: Design Philosophy
I strive to keep my company eco-conscious by using vintage and recycled materials. I also like to use every part of the animal, so to speak. I save damaged garments and use all the parts I can. Scraps of the scraps are saved for homemade gifts for family and friends. Most of my charms and beads are recycled from outdated or damaged jewelry. Of course, anything I can't use that is recyclable will not end up in a landfill. Conserving and reusing were practices my mom and grandpa instilled in me from a very young age.
